Sitting at a bench at a local surf spot in Carlsbad evidently proved how there are different levels of class, from lower to upper class. Families of all cultures would come with their either luxurious cars or not so fancy cars, but all with the same goal, to get to the beach and have a good time. There were also Mexican families who would walk to the beach with their kids in strollers or wagons, obviously of lower class, and even then without having the luxury of a fancy vehicle they were still satisfied and content. It isn’t difficult to make an assumption of what class a group of people or simply an individual is, by merely the clothing worn or the vehicles driven will say it all. The fancy luxury vehicle owners also bring large groups of people along with chairs, beverages and snacks with them as they continue down to the sand, another indication of the level of wealth to purchase these specific goodies. Where as the Mexican families obtain small buckets for sand castles and no snacks or beverages or chairs, but again they are content with this. This could also show how those specific items are not necessary for them to have a good time, they are satisfied with the company and privilege to be at the beach, the question will remain a mystery. This relates to the plantation images we have studied in class, slaves were content with the simple instruments they had and made a dance a time of their lives. In conclusion, it has come to my understanding that anywhere you go, you are bound to see the levels of class, whether it is lower to middle to upper, it is all around us.
