At the Tilted Kilt we sponsor concerts that we think we attract a large venue, which in turn will bring in a larger profit. Last week we hosted our biggest concert yet, Afroman. If anyone knows Afroman, he lives by his own spiritual value set. He preaches his religious practices of women, weed, and alcohol. With lyrics as profound as “So I'm walkin down the street with some chicken and a forty. I'm yellin at these hoochies and I'm lookin for a party. Drink it fast, make it last, till you know it ain't no mo'. Run outta dope, slap the hoe, get the do' and go back to that liquor sto'” it’s a wonder the show was sold out. People waited not so patiently in sagging pants and ripped t shirts for hours awaiting their gin soaked messiah. Finally, He emerged, lit blunt in hand, and began to preach his lifestyle. I powered through the vaginal metaphors, and racial slurs to find the message, “I have an easy going lifestyle, and do not need society’s rules and worldly pleasures.” After the concert was over, he got back on stage and shouted this contradiction “Yo man, a dollar for an autograph!” Although I don’t agree with his spiritual values, he seemed to be quite straight forward with what side of the spectrum he fell on. Turns out that the only thing he really valued, was money. It didn’t matter how loud or clever he sounded the tension of consumerism over spiritual values prevailed. Afroman’s how the fro stole Christmas, was indeed in the spirit of the Grinch.
